Stop Reading My Diary College Humor!

"Girl Scout Cookies I Wish Existed" by Caldwell Tanner on CollegeHumor

I am that person who NEVER shares Tagalongs. I get a box and hide it all year, carefully taking one out every now and then and enjoying the delicious peanut-buttery treat ALONE. I may love you, but I will never share my Tagalongs. Thanks College Humor for indulging my weakness. Now seriously, start selling these!

A Romantic Song with a Weird Music Video

This is one of my favorite love songs, sung by the incredibly cheesy Lionel Richie. I love his voice, the slow rhythm, and the RIDICULOUS plot to this music video. Apparently this song gives men the courage to propose, so maybe give it a listen if you're feeling a little reticent to pop the question. Let Lionel make your Valentine's Day special and/or creepy depending on how you interpret this video.

Hollywood's Legendary On-Screen Couples from Vanity Fair
Vanity Fair takes a look back at some of the most romantic on-screen hookups in cinema. Here are a few of the picks - glad they included one of my favorites from the 80s - Heathers.  See all of them at Vanity Fair.

The Science of Romance: Why We Love

The Science of Romance: Why We Love
Here's an extremely interesting article on the evolutionary benefits of romance. TIME goes in depth into pheremones, oxytocin (the bonding chemical in our brains), birth control, MHC genes, voice modulation, and of course, kissing. There's also a pretty unusual study on when strippers receive bigger tips...and...well, read it for yourself.

Valentine's Day Surprise! Barbie and Ken are Officially Back Together

Image from EW.com
Barbie has officially changed her Facebook status to "In A Relationship" just in time for the sweetest holiday of all.
According to Mattel, who commented on Ken and Barbie's widely-publicized 2004 breakup after 43 years of non-marital bliss:
"People were devastated and we made the evening news and it was crazy. More recently, when people saw them together again on the set of Toy Story 3, people were really pushing for them to get back together again. We got a lot of formal petitions from brand fans, Barbie fan groups, asking for them to get back together."
To publicize the couple's reuniting, Mattel is releasing a new product today, a Barbie and Ken gift set for $5!

The Science of Kissing Explained

In honor of Valentine's Day

A new book called The Science of Kissing takes a look at - you guessed it - kissing. Why do humans kiss each other? It seems like a natural part of affection, but author and researcher Sheril Kirshenbaum says that it's a combination between innate and learned behavior. It's a pretty interesting study, and it's now at the top of my book wishlist.

Vampire Weekend For the Weekend

Need a pick me up? Whenever I need to get going, I listen to "Horchata" from Vampire Weekend from their 2010 album Contra. The beat makes me smile and I love letting go of all of my stress by dancing around with Kristal Bailey to this song. Put it in your ear and get ready for the weekend!

Good Morning!

The Amazing Wonder Dog Fieval

This is my awesome dog Fieval, who answers to Jack, Buddy, and Pumpkin Face. He's usually very confused. His birthday is coming up and he's going to be 12 human years old, which is 72 in dog years, according to www.dogyears.com. How much do you love your dog? (Note to cat owners: While kittens ARE adorable, there is no possible way a fully grown cat can be as awesome as a dog. Sorry.)

Far East Movement Moves Me

The Far East Movement just released a super 8-style video for their latest hit "Rocketeer" and it completely rocks. There are bands that make you wanna move, and bands that make you wanna sing along, and they do both. The song from the video titled "LA Dreamer Short Film" is a toned-down version of their pop single. I love LA bands and artists that embrace the reality and dream of this amazing melting pot of a city, so give them a listen, and be quick about it.

A quote about the video from the Los Angeles Times article:
"When we did the song Rocketeer off our 'Free Wired' album, it was inspired by how we grew up in Downtown LA as LA Dreamers living on a dream and never knowing where it would take you. We wanted to paint a portrait of where we live, from where we started, to the free wired mashed up community of dreamers that make up LA."

Watch the video below and then listen to the original to see which one you like the best.

RSA

If you haven't seen any RSA videos yet (check out my post from a while ago), you really should. Among other things, they create cartoon visualizations to go along with speeches, lectures, and discussions on amazing topics. This one is from a lecture by Stephen Dubner and Steven Levitt, the co-authors of Freakonomics and Superfreakonomics, which is now being made into a movie. There's also a podcast and a segment on Marketplace, and I'm super-obsessed with their investigations into "the hidden side of everything."

Keep an eye out for more RSA vids by following them on Twitter @theRSAorg and check out the other awesome things they do at www.thersa.org.

Bridgestone Makes Me Laugh My Own Laugh, and NOBODY Makes Me Laugh My Own Laugh

Bridgestone Reply All Commercial

Like you, I watch the Super Bowl for the commercials. I only follow USC Football, and once it's over, I have no interest in NFL whatsoever. (Although as a side note, I do always root for Trojans on NFL teams, but there are so many now that they are more likely playing against each other.)

It's rare that a commercial actually makes me laugh out loud, but this one kept me going all the way to the end, and even during the rewatch I cracked up. My favorite parts: the constant screaming, the coffee on the laptop, and the camper in the woods. So enjoy, if you haven't seen it, re-enjoy if you have.

UPDATE: There's an extended version of this commercial that you can watch below. Still makes me laugh.

Things That Make Me Happy - Smooth Voices

There's something about a smooth voice that makes my ears happy. It's like drinking an ice-cold Coca-Cola on a hot day, or when you see a ray of sunlight coming through the clouds. There are those voices that make a song seem like the cold side of the pillow, refreshing and relaxing and perfect, right when you need it. At times it doesn't even matter what the song is about, or what the lyrics are saying, just that smooth clear tone that makes you want to listen to the song on repeat. I'm not just talking about my favorite artists. These are a few of my favorite voices in music. What are yours?

Michael Buble - "Feeling Good" (from 2005's It's Time)

Do Nothing for 2 Minutes

Do Nothing for 2 Minutes
This is actually pretty hard to do. Click on the link above and DON'T DO ANYTHING for 2 whole minutes. Don't touch your mouse or keyboard and listen to the waves crashing. I did this and it was difficult toward the end of the 2 minutes to not click around or check email. Just goes to show that I'm way too connected to this invisible world sometimes and it helps to take a breath and sit for a little while.

Men Look At Crotches

Men look at crotches
A study done by the OJR on eyetracking showed some interesting results about what we're really looking at online. They didn't go into detail on why men and women fixate longer on different parts of an image, but this could be pretty revealing if they really went in depth. Who wants to volunteer to have your eye movements tracked every day?

Such a great idea. uWall lets you search YouTube and creates a music playlist based on your searches. You can search by genre, artist, or song...it's basically what MTV used to be. Check out this article by TechCrunch on a  new solution to an old problem.

The World Would Be More Interesting If Zombies Existed

Zombie Virus Fund

"No more worrying about work or which movie to watch. Daily survival would be all that matters. And we’d be happier for it."

We estimate that £1 billion is needed to develop a zombie virus and make this a reality. Help us reach this target by donating £2 to Amnesty International using the link below. If we reach the target, we’ll ask for our money back and develop the virus. If not, they can keep it.

This is the best idea I've ever heard.
